Girl Scouts of Connecticut Elects New Board Members

October 5, 2009 -Girl Scouts of Connecticut elected a number of new members to its Board of Directors at the organization's Annual Meeting on September 29 in Milford.

The newly elected board members include:

• Kathleen Bolduc, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Hartford Arts Council
• Ramona Carlow, President for AT&T Connecticut
• Aurora Daly, Principal, Travel Daly
• Bill Finch, Mayor of Bridgeport
• Anthony Harris, formerly an Audit Manager with Pitney Bowes, Inc
• Karen Hoffman, retired
• Kimberly Pita, Managing Principal, Pita Communications LLC and Chief Operating     Officer, Vrroomedia, LLC
• Caroline Sloat, Director of Scholarly Publications at the American Antiquarian Society
• Robert White, General Manager for Crown Properties, Inc

Girl Scouts of Connecticut also elected two girl members to the Board of Directors. Girl members, Katie Larkin from Niantic and Elizabeth Maloney from East Lyme will work directly with the board to enhance and expand the Girl Scouting experience for themselves and their sister Girl Scouts.

Representing a number of counties throughout the state of Connecticut, the new board consists of life-long Girl Scouts, prominent community leaders, nonprofit and corporate executives, two university presidents and many board veterans. The 26 members who now comprise the board will draw from their extensive experience in Girl Scouting, finance, communications, government, education, technology, marketing and property management to lead the state's largest girl-focused organization.

"We are delighted to have so many dedicated Girl Scouts and community leaders on our volunteer board," said Girl Scouts of Connecticut CEO Jennifer Smith Turner. "Their broad-ranging expertise will help guide Girl Scouts of Connecticut to best serve girls around the state."

Continuing the Girl Scouts' commitment to diversity, the board includes members from the African-American, Hispanic, and Asian-American communities.

The Board of Directors is a policy-making and governance body responsible for establishing the vision for Girl Scouts of Connecticut, developing strategic priorities, and providing governance and fiscal oversight for the implementation of these priorities by the CEO and staff members. Board members must be members of the Girl Scout Movement, live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law, and work to promote Girl Scouts as the leading organization for leadership development of girls in the United States.
